The story in this movie is based on the life of a girl named Shalini who is from Hindu religion and used to study in a nursing college. The trailer of the film begins.As the trailer of the film begins, it can be seen that the officer asks the girl, tell me, how did you join ISIS, the girl replies. Instead of how you got involved, ask why you got involved. Film 

It is shown in the film how Hindu girls are targeted and their religion is changed by persuasion. And how they become Muslims from Hindus. The story shows that the girl was from a common Hindu family and studied in a good college, how her life changed when she started meeting a Muslim friend and that change her life.

Shalini says in a scene, I am not the only girl who joins ISIS, 32000 Hindu and Christian girls like me are forcibly converted to Islam and send him in countries like Iraq and Syria

According to Sacnilk and early estimates, The Kerala Story had earned Rs 19.50 crore on May 13, 2023. Considering this, the total box office collection of the film now stands at Rs 112.87 crore.
